Here’s the facts. In the 2014 midterm elections only 36.7% of the voting eligible population actually cast a ballot -- and in the younger demographics, that number drops to 16.3% (figures via Those numbers suck, and with a pivotal election coming up this November, everyone needs to do their part in their own way.

So, welcome to Filmmaking Frenzy for America, a very short film contest where we invite writers, actors and filmmakers from all over the United States to collaborate on the most outrageous, entertaining and non-partisan under-30-second PSAs imaginable, all with one goal: urge your fellow citizens to register to vote and then vote, dammit.

Here’s how it’s going to go...

The theme is… voting. Are you registered to vote? It'd be crazy ironic if you weren't, but that's okay. Please make sure you're registered and that it's up to date. There's a bunch of sites online you can use --, for example, from our friends at the League of Women Voters.

Voting is a dry topic, but that’s the whole point of this contest. Feel free to go nuts making these voting PSAs as profound, hilarious, or profoundly and hilariously weird as you like.

(Don’t worry, Frenzy faithful, this isn’t taking the place of the annual Fantastic Fest bumper contest. Stay tuned to for details about this year’s edition, which should kick off roughly around the time this contest wraps up.)

Beginning in late August, selected entries will play in front of hundreds of thousands of Alamo Drafthouse guests all across the country, right up til Election Day. And one grand prize winner, voted on by the public and ultimately chosen by a jury, will win $500 cash and a year of free movies at Alamo Drafthouse!

Wanna join the Frenzy? Get your crews together, because submissions are open from now through Sunday, August 12th, 2018 at Noon CDT. Please review all submission specs and content rules before starting your projects.

All eligible entries will be posted publicly. Alamo Drafthouse’s creative team will sift through submissions and select a group of semi-finalists for voting. That group will be announced on on Thursday, August 16th. That’s when public voting begins. Voting will end on Monday, August 20th. The top four vote-getters plus one wild-card selection by the Alamo Drafthouse team will make it to the finals, where a jury -- to be announced later -- will decide the winners.

The grand prize winner will win $500 cash and Free Movies for a Year at Alamo Drafthouse!

The grand prize entry will be shown at Alamo Drafthouse screenings across the country beginning in late August and up through November. A small selection of Alamo Drafthouse favorites may also be rotated in throughout the coming months.

If anything changes in this contest, we’ll let you know on this website and via @alamodrafthouse on Twitter using the hashtag #filmmakingfrenzy.
